Invictus - 2023 Limited Edition Print

For 2023 we started with a poem.  No images.  No references.  I sent Jake Rathkamp 'Invictus' by William Earnest Henley.  I asked Jake to create something we've never seen before.  I wanted the art to embody courage in the face of fear.  What Jake came up with is so much more than I could have ever hoped.  The image conveys all that but it clearly states one more very important thing--that danger and fear, the conquering of those demons are in your head and as the poem states, 'I am the master of my fate:  The captain of my soul.'

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,   
  Black as the Pit from pole to pole,   
I thank whatever gods may be   
  For my unconquerable soul.   

In the fell clutch of circumstance 
  I have not winced nor cried aloud.   
Under the bludgeonings of chance   
  My head is bloody, but unbowed.   

Beyond this place of wrath and tears   
  Looms but the Horror of the shade, 
And yet the menace of the years   
  Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.   

It matters not how strait the gate,   
  How charged with punishments the scroll,   
I am the master of my fate:
  I am the captain of my soul.

Each print is numbered and signed by the artist, Jake Rathkamp.
