The Detroit Fire Department is credited for using the first gasoline powered fire engine when they put Engine 30 a Packard into service as a flying squadron.  Engine 30 was staffed with ten men and was used as a quick response vehicle to bolster the man power on fires around the city.

Engine 30's Packard was called the Devil Wagon by Detroiters who would see the men go blazing by.
